Rotary Club of Birmingham President Jon Blankenship began his 2020-21 term during the Covid-19 lockdown, seamlessly hosting online meetings, paving the way to hybrid and then in-person meetings with an outstanding lineup of speakers. He kept the club strong, increasing membership in both number and diversity over the challenging year. Blankenship inspired members to give back to the community through service and support of Club initiatives, oversaw the overhaul of RCB communications, continued to build connections with Rotaract, and helped grow the RCB Foundation.

During the final meeting of the club year on June 30, 20201, past-president Philippe Lathrop presented Blankenship with the past president’s pin and announced a donation in his honor to the RCB Foundation scholarship program.

“I want to thank you, all of the members of this club,” said Blankenship. “We’ve been through one of the most challenging years in memory, and yet you still found ways to serve the community and stay connected to one another. Your commitment to Rotary, to Birmingham, and to our club is truly remarkable. It’s because of you that our club is so strong, not only in our membership numbers, but in our commitment to our mission. Thank you!”
