During the June 16th Rotary Club of Birmingham meeting, President Jon Blankenship presented the Spain-Hickman Award for Distinguished Service to Rotarian Jim Hughey. The award is the club’s highest honor, named for Frank Spain and Roy Hickman, the two RCB members who became Rotary International presidents. It honors those who exemplify to an exceptional degree their commitment to the ideals of Rotary, and especially by their adherence to the tenets of the “Four-Way Test” in their personal life, vocational responsibilities, and community service.

Hughey was recognized for his extensive service to RCB and throughout the community. He joined Rotary in 1989 and has been instrumental in RCB and RCB Foundation scholarship programs, Pre-K programs, and ACT Prep Program. As RCB president, he led the club's response to Hurricane Katrina. RCB members frequently seek his wisdom and thoughtful perspectives on a whole host of issues. He has served on and led numerous boards in service to the community and has served in leadership roles at Balch and Bingham and Brasfield and Gorrie.

Congratulations to Jim Hughey on this tremendous honor!
