Lakeshore Foundation President & CEO Jeff Underwood Highlights Transformative Potential of Sports

This week the Rotary Club of Birmingham welcomed Jeff Underwood, Lakeshore Foundation President & CEO. Underwood discussed Lakeshore's role in supporting athletes and individuals with physical disabilities and chronic health conditions, including sport, fitness, and recreation programs for all Alabama residents; advocacy for differently abled individuals; designation as an official U.S. Paralympic training site for wheelchair basketball and national governing body for wheelchair rugby; as well as participation in state-of-the-art research studies with UAB and Apple. He shared the excitement of sending athletes to Tokyo to compete in the upcoming Paralympic Games and the new Birmingham Hammers Wheelchair Football League coming to Birmingham.

"Sport is a powerful force in our community, it's a powerful force in the world," said Underwood. "It drives us to excel. It's part of our identity. Part of what we do at Lakeshore is to use sport as a vehicle for transformation and also to make sure that these opportunities that sport provides are available to everyone."
