This week the Rotary Club of Birmingham welcomed Rotarian Ron Kitchens, President & CEO of the Birmingham Business Alliance. Kitchens shared his philosophy for economic development, that the greatest force for change is a job. He discussed BBA's role helping local businesses succeed through tools, resources, strategic thinking and solutions to overcome barriers and the ripple effects throughout the community. Kitchens explained that in order to support the community's growth, Birmingham will need to create 20,000 more and better jobs in the next five years and attract and activate 10,000 workers.

"We live in one of the best job markets in the nation," said Kitchens. "We can’t take it for granted that we own that privilege. It’s something we’re going to have to scrap for every day. And at the Birmingham Business Alliance, that’s what we get up and believe every day. There is a war for jobs and we’ve got to make sure that this region, this community, this state is the most competitive it can be to achieve the results that at least let us win the battle."
