Rotary Club of Birmingham President Chuck Redden called the first Rotary Club of Birmingham meeting of the 2022-23 year to order on July 13th. Club members responded with the traditional standing ovation afforded to each president at the start of their term.

Redden shared that his interaction with Rotary began over 40 years ago when his father’s club, the Rotary Club of Dickson, TN, invited the winners of an elementary school public speaking contest to address the club. He introduced members of his family and coworkers attending the meeting.

Redden thanked the RCB board members serving our Club this year and offered appreciation to Rotary staff members. He thanked Immediate Past President Brenda Hackney for leading the Club out of the pandemic, launching a new strategic plan and getting things back on track to serve members, the community, and the world.

Redden shared his excitement for the year ahead. He thanked the program committee for an outstanding job lining up first-class speakers. He highlighted opportunities for members to serve within the Club and in the community as well as fellowship gatherings. Redden affirmed continued support of the RCB Foundation led by Lee Weathers and announced donations will be made in honor of each week’s speaker to support the Foundation’s scholarship fund. Redden also expressed enthusiasm ahead of the International Peace Conference to be held in Birmingham in May 2023, chaired by Will Ratliff. He thanked the many Rotarians who helped produce the Club’s new Strategic Plan and he encouraged members to attend meetings in person.

Redden discussed this year’s Rotary International theme— “Imagine Rotary”. He invited each Club member to imagine what we want our Club and our community to be.

“Keep those thoughts in your mind, and if you want to live in the community you imagine or be a member of the club you imagine, I would challenge you to help build it,” Redden said. “We are a club that gets things done when we put our mind to it. It is time to get to work.”
