Rotary Club of Birmingham Foundation Scholarship Applications Open for 2025

During the January 15th meeting, RCB Scholarship Chair Roman Gary announced the Rotary Club of Birmingham Foundation is now accepting applications for the 2025 scholarship program. 

RCB established its scholarship program during the 2018-2019 year under the leadership of Past President Jim Hughey Jr. to assist students in Birmingham City Schools reduce the financial burdens of pursuing higher education. Last year the scholarship program was endowed in Jim’s honor the program continues to expand thanks to the generosity of our members. 

To date, RCB has awarded scholarships to 30 outstanding students. Nine have graduated and 21 continue to pursue degrees at colleges and universities including Harvard, Yale, Alabama, Tuskegee, Alabama State, and the University of Southern California. 

Roman announced the RCB Foundation will further expand the scholarship program by awarding eight scholarships this year. He thanked the members of the scholarship committee for their time and diligence and showed appreciation to all Rotarians, businesses and friends who have contributed to the scholarship fund.  

"Every dollar each of you has contributed makes a tremendous difference in the lives of these young people. Thank you for your continued support and all you do for this next generation of promising young leaders."

Roman shared updates from several scholarship recipients who are currently in college.

Demetria Winston, a first-generation college student who joined the Alabama Army National Guard after high school, is now a sophomore psychology major at Alabama A&M University.

Jaidynn Perkins-Martin continues to excel as a sophomore at Yale University, where she joined The Women's Network and Yale College Council, and helped the Yale volleyball team win its conference championship and compete in the NCAA tournament. 

Alabama State University freshman Shuntasia Williams joined the Air Force ROTC program and is pursuing a degree in Criminal Justice. She will be commissioned as a second lieutenant in the Air Force when she graduates.
