Campaign Chair Dr. Dow Briggs Celebrates United Way’s Century of Impact

The Rotary Club of Birmingham recently welcomed guest speaker Dr. Dow Briggs, United Way of Central Alabama 2023 Campaign Chair. He highlighted the tremendous impact UWCA has had on Birmingham and surrounding communities over the organization’s 100-year history.

About Dr. Dow Briggs

Dr. Dow Briggs is the Executive Vice President of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama.  He has served with Blue Cross since 2004. During his time at Blue Cross, he has served as Chief Business Officer, Senior Vice President of Business Operations, Vice President of Health Management, Medical Director and Associate Medical Director.

Dr. Briggs came to Blue Cross from UAB’s Department of General Internal Medicine where he was an Assistant Professor of Medicine. He was also Medical Director of Managed Care for the UAB Health System. 

Currently Dr. Briggs serves on the board of directors for the Virginia Samford Theater, New Directions Behavioral Health Company, Blue Health Intelligence, the United Way of Central Alabama, and the Robert Reed GI Cancer Foundation.  He also serves on the community advisory board for UAB Medical Center and on the external advisory committee for the Lister Hill Center for Health Policy – University of Alabama at Birmingham.

Dr. Briggs completed his undergraduate work at the University of Virginia where he received a bachelor’s degree in Religious Studies.  He received his MD from The University of Alabama School of Medicine and completed an internal medicine residency at UAB Medical Center.
