Rotary Club of Birmingham Celebrates 110 Years at the Rotary Trail Party
The Rotary Club of Birmingham celebrated its 110th anniversary and ten years since pledging Rotary Trail as its centennial gift to the City of Birmingham, as members and guests gathered at The Harbert Center on April 27th for the 7th annual Rotary Trail Party.
Rotarians and their guests enjoyed a delicious crawfish and shrimp boil along with catered food and desserts. Rotarian Frank Stitt created a signature Cool as a Cucumber cocktail featuring Redmont Vodka and Vulcan Gin for the event which attendees enjoyed along with Back 40 beer and wine. Terry and the Zydeco Bad Boyz provided live music entertainment and Cajun dancers got everyone on their feet. Guests enjoyed snapping pictures at the photo booth and entered to win prizes from Rotarian Jane Reed Ross and Good Dog Park and Bar.
Thanks to Rotary Trail Party Committee members Derek Brown, Helen Combs, Fred Elliott, Eleanor Estes, Meredith Hutcheson, Josh Jones, Charles Knight, Bolaji Kukoyi, Libby Lassiter, Laura Montgomery Lee, Jane Reed Ross, Erin Stephenson, Frank Stitt, Kennon Walthall, Cornell Wesley, and chairs Duane Donner and Hatton Smith, as well as RCB and THC staff who worked together to coordinate an unforgettable evening:
Rotary Trail is the Rotary Club of Birmingham’s 100th anniversary gift to the Birmingham community. Completed in 2015, the 3.5-million dollar project transformed a vacant railroad right-of-way, or “cut,” into a pleasantly-landscaped, four-block walking/running/biking pathway. The trail’s economic impact has been tremendous, with millions of dollars invested in the once blighted area. The trail and surrounding areas have become a destination for visitors and residents alike and are among the most photographed places in Birmingham. RCB oversees the routine maintenance and upkeep of the trail. Members join in service several times a year, replacing mulch, pruning plants and removing litter. Click here to learn more.
