Rotary Club of Birmingham Gathers for Celebration on Rotary Trail

The Rotary Club of Birmingham celebrated its centennial gift to the City of Birmingham with members and guests gathering for the Rotary Trail Party on April 28th, after the pandemic preempted the annual event for two years.

Rotarians and their guests enjoyed a delicious crawfish and shrimp boil, catered food and desserts. Rotarian Frank Stitt created a signature Southside cocktail for the event which attendees sampled along with Back 40 beer and wine. Terry and the Zydeco Bad Boyz provided live music entertainment and a team of local dancers got everyone on their feet. Guests also had the opportunity to have their portraits made by a caricature artist and enter a bicycle drawing, compliments of Rotarian Libby Lassiter and Bayer Properties.

We are grateful to Rotary Trail Party Committee members for their hard work planning the fantastic event: Derek Brown, Helen Combs, Fred Elliott, Josh Jones, Charles Knight, Libby Lassiter, April Mason, Jane Reed Ross, Frank Stitt, Gardner Vick, Cornell Wesley, Nick Willis, and chairs Duane Donner and Hatton Smith.

Rotary Trail is the Rotary Club of Birmingham’s 100th anniversary gift to the Birmingham community. Completed in 2015, the 3.5-million dollar project transformed a vacant railroad right-of-way, or “cut,” into a pleasantly-landscaped, four-block walking/running/biking pathway. The trail’s economic impact has been tremendous, with millions of dollars invested in the once blighted area. The trail and surrounding areas have become a destination for visitors and residents alike and are among the most photographed places in Birmingham. RCB oversees the routine maintenance and upkeep of the trail. Members join in service several times a year, replacing mulch, pruning plants and removing litter. Click here to learn more.
