Chef Scott Peacock Talks Southern Food, Small Towns and Biscuits

On June 5, 2024, the Rotary Club of Birmingham (RCB) welcomed Scott Peacock, James Beard Award-winning chef, writer & filmmaker.

Peacock shared stories from his decades-long career as a chef in restaurants that included Atlanta’s Watershed, Horseradish Grill and the Georgia governor’s mansion. He described memorable moments from his friendship with southern food pioneer Edna Lewis, music icon Roseanne Cash and Birmingham restauranteur and Rotarian Frank Stitt. Peacock explained how a search for his grandmother’s tearoom in rural Alabama led him to purchase a historic Marion, Ala. home where he now hosts cooking experiences centered around his renowned biscuits.

Bio for Scott Peacock

Scott Peacock is a James Beard Award-winning chef, writer and filmmaker. He co-authored the best-selling cookbook The Gift of Southern Cooking with Edna Lewis and has dedicated his career to the food of the American South. Peacock served as chef at Atlanta restaurants Watershed and Horseradish Grill and the Georgia governor’s mansion before moving to Marion, Ala., where he hosts private cooking explorations of the Southern culinary canon, including his celebrated Biscuit Experiences. Peacock’s biscuits have been highlighted in Gourmet, Better Homes & Gardens, The New York Times, on The Martha Stewart Show and TODAY, and in Food & Wine as one of their 40 best recipes ever published.
