Bill Demchak Shares PNC’s Commitment to Consistency and Longevity in Banking
On April 3, 2024, the Rotary Club of Birmingham (RCB) welcomed Bill Demchak, The PNC Financial Services Group Chairman & CEO. Rotarian NIck Willis, PNC North & Central Alabama Regional President, facilitated a conversation with Demchak entitled “PNC: A responsible partner for nearly 160 years.”
Demchak provided an overview of the current financial environment and dynamic shifts in banking in recent years. He focused on PNC’s growth and stability during periods of uncertainty that have proven detrimental for smaller and risk-prone financial institutions. Demchak discussed the evolving landscape of banking that is less local due to consolidation and digitization in the industry. He explained how PNC has grown significantly due to a commitment to principles that have guided the company for well over a century.
“We’re good at serving clients, we’re good at being local in the communities and working with almost insider knowledge of all the markets we’re in because we’re part of the community,” said Demchak. “We just expanded that to more communities, we didn’t change who we were.”
Demchak highlighted PNC’s commitment to supporting the communities and small businesses in its footprint through projects such as the Partner Up career readiness program and the Grow Up Great preschool learning initiative. Demchak championed PNC’s support for students attending college through programs like the Pittsburgh Promise and announced PNC’s commitment to invest $10 million in the Birmingham Promise over the next ten years.
“This program really works. We’re thrilled to be part of it here in town, it makes a big difference.”
